history Eagle Scouts

Troop 832 was started in 1988 by Reverend Wayne Mitchell And Donald Bailey. The "832" was chosen to remind us of John 8:32 . Rev. Mitchell was pastor of Whole Truth Tabernacle (now named the Jesus Church of the Quad Cities), the Chartering Organization for 832. Don Bailey (an Eagle Scout and son of a scoutmaster) was the first scoutmaster and remained in that role for 15 years. In 2003 he became pastor of a church in Geneseo, Il and could no longer devote the time necessary to lead the Troop. Don is still active in an advisory role.

The Troop's first major accomplishment was probably in 1990 at the Klondike Derby when the young Troop took 2nd place in the Illowa Council in the scouting competition and 1st place in the sled race. That was quite an accomplishment for a new Troop. However if you asked anyone about it that was there they will probably only tell you about the snowball fight at the end!

Since then, Troop 832 has won the Klondike Derby several times. 832 has also done well in first aid meets. In 1992 and 1993, 832 won back-to-back 1st place trophies in the first aid meet in Cambridge, Il. The first victory was notable for a couple reasons. one of 832's patrols was the only patrol that day to get a perfect score at the choking station. On the other hand, 832's other patrol was the only patrol that managed to "kill" the poor choking victim!

Over the years Troop 832 has participated in many scouting events including but not limited to Boy Scout Summer Camp (located in Andalusia on the Loud Thunder Forest Preserve), fishing trips countless camping trips, Boy Scout Camp-o-Rees and high adventure trips. In 2000, Troop 832 sent 10 scouts to the prestigious Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. it is because of this consistently active program that Troop 832 has been very successful at advancing scouts. The Troop 832 legacy includes 11 scouts so far that have achieved the rank of Eagle, Scouting's highest honor.
